There is just something about a newborn baby that makes everyone instantly smile, am I right? Newborns are the most special of little people. Every tiny detail of those blissful newborn days should be captured with love and emotion.
It is best to book in for your newborn session when you are around 20 weeks pregnant. You will be given a provisional date for your session, which is usually around 1 week after your due date. Babies can be very unpredictable so I ask that once your beautiful baby has arrived, that you drop me a message, and we can confirm a date between us which is under the two week mark. The best time to capture newborn images are between 4 and 14 days, this is because babies are generally much sleepier and have that ‘womb-like’ curliness making it easier to pose them as they sleep. It’s also an opportunity for you to relax with a hot drink and a biscuit or two, and even catch an hour of sleep in peace!
Siblings and parents are always welcome to join in for pictures with their family’s newest addition. These emotive shots are usually my favourite and I always try to encourage parents to get involved.
All packages require a £49 non-refundable deposit to secure your session, which is then deducted from the package cost. Once you have booked in, you will be emailed over a preparation guide full of important information on what to bring and how to prepare for the session. Sessions can last from 2-4 hours and are completely led by baby. They are informal, relaxed and give plenty of time for milk breaks and cuddles. Sessions are held Monday-Friday mornings, so if you have siblings that you would like to include then please bear in mind they may need a morning off school.
When the session has finished, we will then arrange a date for you to come back to the studio for your viewing appointment, in which you will be shown a slideshow of all of the images taken which are only softly edited at this time. You will then make your selection on which package you would like to purchase and full payment will need to be made. Payment plans are available for package 3, this will be discussed at the time.
Once payment has been received, I will then work within the timeframe I have advised you to deliver your gallery to you on your own personalised online gallery. If you have purchased a package with any products, or you have purchased any additional wall art products, this will also be discussed at your viewing appointment and these will be ordered and a timeframe will be given to you in when you will be able to collect them from the studio. Any prints or products are to be collected within 1 month of arrival at the studio.

When is the best time to book my newborn photos?
A.The best time to book is around your 20 week scan. I only take a small handful of newborn sessions each month, so the earlier the better to make sure you don't miss out as I get booked up very quickly. I don't like turning people away when they try to book in once baby has arrived, as most of the time I do not have any availability to squeeze them in.
What is the best age to photograph my newborn?
A.The best age to photograph a newborn is between 4-14 days following birth, but the sooner the better. During this time frame babies are more likely to sleep soundly when being repositioned, and they still have that beautiful baby curliness which helps positioning.
What if my baby is older than 14 days and I want to book a session?
A.Babies over the age of 2 weeks have more awake time, wake much easier when being repositioned, and generally don’t sleep as soundly as 'younger' newborns. However, do not let this put you off. I have photographed newborns as old as 8 weeks, and although they tend to be more awake and alert throughout the session, I am still able to capture beautiful images, they just make me work harder to get them!
Where does the session take place?
A.All sessions take place in my studio in Birkenhead, Wirral. It is light and airy and designed for you to sit back, relax, and enjoy watching me create the special images of your tiny new life!
I've had many parents take a nap, chill out and have some time together, or simply put their feet up and watch netflix whilst I work my magic with your little one. I want you to feel as comfortable as you would do in your own home. So when I say make yourself at home, I truly mean it.
I have older children who I would like photographed with my newborn, can you accommodate this?
A.Of course! I always encourage sibling and family photos in my sessions. I tend to do the sibling and family images at the beginning of the session so that they are ready to go, but as they can get easily bored once this has been done then I do recommend that someone is able to take them home or out for some lunch or a walk. If this isn't possible then I just ask that you bring them something to keep them occupied. If this may be a tablet for them to watch, I ask that headphones are also provided as we want to keep baby as settled as possible.
Do you provide props and outfits?
A.Yes, I provide everything that is needed. When booking, you will be sent a questionnaire that asks about colour themes and styling which then helps me prepare for when you arrive.
All I ask is that you bring 2-3 extra bottles of milk if you are bottle feeding incase baby needs topping up throughout the session. I have a perfect prep machine available within the studio to help the making of a bottle easier. This will more than likely be the case, but is totally normal due to how much I will be moving baby. I will also send you over a preparation guide of what to bring when the booking is made, so no need to panic!
How soon will I be able to see the photos?
A.Around 1 week after the session has taken place, you will be invited back to the studio for your in person viewing appointment. Here you will be shown all of the images on a beautiful slideshow and then individually so that you are able to chose which package you would like to purchase. Once you have chosen, I aim for a turn around time of around 2-4 weeks for your digital images to be delivered on your own personalised online gallery. Any additional products such as prints or wall art will have their own timeframes on which will be explained at the appointment. These will be ordered once your digitals have been sent to you, and then updates on those products will be sent to you.
If your gallery is slightly longer than the stated turnaround time, this does not mean I've forgotten about it, it will mean I'm still working on your images. Every session is different in its own way and requires different methods of editing depending on various things. I work tirelessly behind the scenes to get galleries to their forever homes as fast as possible. As soon as galleries are finished, I send them straight to your email! If there are any delays, you will be notified immediately.
Can I print the photos in the gallery?
A.Yes you can! Once you have downloaded your images you are free to print them and use them how you wish. It is however illegal to edit or alter them in any way including social media filters as per signed in your contract.
I do recommend getting your prints and wall art products through me to guarantee quality, but you are under no obligation to do so. I am not liable for any prints or products I have not supplied, especially lower quality high street quality printers.
The lab I use supply the highest quality, fine art professional products which are best teamed with your professional images. Please contact me for further information in regards to a price list.
